Feeding devices from PDUs

Switch a rack to Power mode and Railyard overlays the PDU rails and a power strip. A PowerLink feeds a device from a PDU outlet — the power equivalent of a cable. Feeding a device from two PDUs gives it A/B redundancy; a device on a single feed is flagged by the as a single point of failure.

0U side PDUs

Vertical 0U PDUs mount in the side channels rather than consuming rack units. Railyard treats a 0U strip as a PDU with real outlets you can feed from — even when its device type doesn't fully resolve — so the common vertical-PDU layout models cleanly.

Load, heat and weight roll-ups

As you feed devices, three budgets roll up live so you see a rack fill before it's a problem on the floor:

  • Power (kW) — drawn load against each PDU's capacity and against the rack's power budget, formatted compactly (e.g. 4.2 kW).
  • Heat (BTU/hr) — for IT gear essentially all drawn power becomes heat, so Railyard derives the thermal load (watts × 3.412) that your cooling is sized against. It's shown per device, per rack, and rolled up with power draw and load on the data-centre and estate dashboards.
  • Weight (kg) — each device's catalogue weight sums up the rack against its weight limit.

A PDU over capacity, a rack over its power budget, or a rack over its weight limit each surface as an inline design finding — with a “near capacity” warning before you tip over the line.
